WHO WE ARE

Empowering Through Education

Welcome to BHM28.ca, where Black history comes alive and communities unite in celebration, education, and empowerment. This dynamic platform is proudly brought to you by the Genesis Community Foundation (GCF), an organization rooted in the mission of transforming lives and uplifting communities. The Black History Month 28-Day Challenge is a shining example of this mission in action, bringing people together to learn, connect, and thrive.

Born in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 28-Day Challenge was GCF’s innovative response to a world suddenly confined and disconnected. When in-person Black History Month events were canceled, we created a virtual space where individuals and families could still celebrate and explore Black history. The result? An online movement that not only bridged the gap but also sparked joy, learning, and unity in households and communities across the globe.

The challenge has since grown into a beloved annual tradition, fostering a deeper understanding of Black history through daily questions that range from quick multiple-choice to thought-provoking short answers. Participants eagerly log in each day, learning about the contributions, resilience, and triumphs of Black communities. Bonus questions encourage family collaboration, adding an element of fun and togetherness that strengthens bonds and builds lasting memories.

But the impact goes far beyond the month of February. The challenge has empowered participants with knowledge, created a sense of belonging, and inspired ongoing conversations about Black history and culture. Communities have grown stronger as they’ve come together to celebrate their shared heritage, and the excitement has only continued to build.

Now in its fifth year, the Black History Month 28-Day Challenge has become a cornerstone of GCF’s work, with a dedicated website that extends its reach and impact. BHM28.ca is more than just a challenge—it’s a year-round hub for celebrating Black excellence. From emancipation events to Juneteenth celebrations, our calendar is filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and connect.

Join us on this incredible journey. Whether you’re a returning challenger or new to the experience, BHM28.ca invites you to explore Black history in a way that’s exciting, engaging, and transformative. Together, we’re building a legacy that empowers individuals and unites communities, one challenge at a time.
